The End Of The Squatting Era

Dear Reader(s),

Is it just me or does it appear the idea of squatting has slowly died. It could just be me living in New England and Philly, but it appears that there are no squats left. Some of the more famous ones such as C-Squat (New York City) and Paradise City (Philly) have died off. C-Squat finnally appealed and bought the building for 1 dollar and is no longer a squat. Where as Paradise City was shut down after a kid was killed there. I hope the west coast is having more luck then we are.
In my travels I've rarely come across a previously set up squat. In NYC there were rumours of them but that they were scarse. Down in Philadelphia I set a few up but never wandered out to any that were actually there. Sure the rate of abandon buildings is down but they are still out there. It just saddens me to find out that they weren't as lucious as the stories say.
I guess that I'm more or less sending out a plea for people to start squatting more. There are good websites such as www.squattheplanet.com for people to collaberate. Though more then likely all the traveling kids are still bearing out the winter in New Orleans. Hopefully in the near future Obama will royaly fuck up and the economy will continue to crash. Thus causing a dieing dream of mine to come true: The growth of squats in america.

  1. I FOUND THIS AND JUST THINK IT'S BRILLIANT...

    Anarchism isn't about the presence or absence of rules. Anarchism, in a nutshell, supports free association, opposes the state, and opposes hierarchy. (At the very least, anarchists oppose involuntary hierarchy; anarchists often try to create egalitarian alternatives to the semi-voluntary hierarchies too). As long as you don't press-gang people into your club, it's free association.

    There are several different traditions which respect these values, and usually recognize each other as forms of anarchism. These traditions borrow ideas from classical liberalism, from early socialism, from each other, and sometimes from other sources.

    People depend on each other. People tend to create their own voluntary social order, including free association, reciprocity, mutual aid, and, if necessary, mutual defense. Once people create this order, a state, or any other criminal gang, is in trouble. So the state, to preserve itself, must preempt voluntary social order.

    ...Yes! That's what I'm saying!..the republic fears any real democracy ever being allowed to happen. So they keep us monitored, diverted, enfeared and oppressed -and passively convinced that we need the "protection" offerred by their system (of trying to control every little thing that everybody does, as if it's any of thier business at all).

    The only thing we need protection from
    ->is that system!

    Viva la revolution!

  2. there are plenty of squats, you have to go out and make them if they aren't there.. and the way to deal with the police is to resist at every chance.. and start making things difficult for them when they start breaking in buildings to remove you...
    The justice system is still on the side of the poor when it comes to people with no home... its worth it to deal with the court if need be, and never give in.. the injustice would be for them not to provide housing to people, and force people out on the street.
